Turquoise…did you know?

For centuries Turquoise has been recognized as possessing the power to protect riders from injury due to falls. First used as amulets by Turkish soldiers, on their persons and attached to their bridles and trappings, it later came to be used for protection against falls of any kind.

Jewelry Check-up Time!

August is always a busy month with many of us squeezing in that last vacation trip. So don’t forget to leave your jewelry with us. We’ll clean, polish and check for needed repairs.

Jewelry AppraisalJewelry Appraisal It’s also the perfect time to update any jewelry appraisals that are over 4 to 5 years old. We’ve all seen the increase of value in precious metals diamonds and gems so updates are important.

Remember, your valued pieces are safer in our safe than left behind in your home!

These rings were repaired after being flattened by a car!

Military Dog MonumentAt this time of the year we honor our military, past and present, with great celebration…men and women.  But one soldier is often forgotten or maybe not even known to some, the military dog.

Military working dogs have been used in support of our soldiers since WWII. They are now all being trained at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, TX.

The Military Working Dog Teams National Monument was recently dedicated there to these important members of our military. German Shepherds and Labrador Retrievers are represented on each side of the soldier.

I’m so proud that my cousin was instrumental in its inception and creation. He brought the bronze miniature of the monument to our recent family reunion and I wanted to share it with you.

The monument is in an area on the base that is open to the public so next time you’re in the San Antonio area, please stop by to see it – more info here

Who says diamonds are a girl’s best friend…when there are PEARLS!

For centuries, women have adorned themselves with pearls. From royalty with pearls sewn on their gowns to a strand of pearls often given as a wedding gift to be worn on special occasions.

Thank goodness these days we are wearing them in all colors and sizes for all occasions. And fashion forward men are often seen with a single Tahitian pearl on a black cord around their neck.

Pearls we wear often need to be cleaned and checked regularly. One of the easiest ways to tell if your knotted strand needs re-stringing is to see if you can move one of the pearls back and forth between the knot on either side of it. If it moves, it’s time for re-stringing!    We will clean them at the time we re-string them.

Father’s Day is coming soon and we have a few fun items to suggest. A great looking key ring, sterling silver with wood inlay, a sterling silver money clip ready for engraving and last but not at all least, my Dad’s 30-30 rifle shell writing pens in several different finishes.

In Celebration of Mothers!

Having just returned from a family reunion, I’m reminded of the different definitions these words have these days. Mother is word that, for me, has a different meaning.

My late husband, Billy, brought my daughter, Nychole, to me and I’m Momma Jan to my young neighbors, Crystal and Carlos.

Let’s celebrate all our mothers in all the definitions of that wonderful word throughout this year!
